Fox News Special - Government Earmarks

Published by jonathan1983 at 4:08 am under Postings Edit This

I watched most of the special on Fox News last night about congressional earmarks and I must say that I have not been as upset about a particular topic recently as much as this one.  As a conservative, I always tend to want less government spending anyways but the way our legislation is inflated with excessive spending is just ridiculous.  They gave one example of a Congressman who purchased a decent amount of land shortly before passing legislation that was stuffed with “extras” that included money for redevelopment of the Congressman’s land.  One example, he purchased a piece of land for around $400,000 and then sold it after the bill was passed for around $750k.  When he was brought before the House ethics committee they did not see any problem with his little business deals.

I think this example shows that we need some major reform in the way our congress is currently ran.  I know that many people don’t have much to say nice about our current president, but it’s bad when congressional approval is lower than his.  As a taxpaying American, it makes me mad to see the money that us hard working citizens contribute going to line the pockets of a thieving legislator.  We need to clean up our spending and save the American taxpayers some real money.
